Pre-Residency

Before you arrive, you are given pre-residency assignments to complete:

  • Assigned pre-reading materials (2-3 books plus possible articles)
  • Faculty to Attendee" survey covering your prior knowledge and session expectations
  • Psychological type questionnaire
  • On-line case study team participation

You will be placed in an "ideal" case study team and your team will "meet" through technology with specific pre-residency tasks. The group will continue to work together during the residency.

Residency

The four-1/2 day residential full-immersion course begins with an opening session on acting strategically followed by a reception. Curriculum for the week includes sessions covering:

  • Strategic Thinking & Acting
  • Strategic Negotiation: Influencing Outcomes
  • Strategic Marketing
  • Strategic Meeting Management
  • Strategic Leadership: Leading With the Brain - Emergenetics & Change
  • Organizational Culture Awareness Forum
  • e-Volution: Technology & You

Along with attending these sessions, attendees will also participate in a continuation of the same small group to which they were assigned in the pre-residency. Each small group is assigned an aspect of organizing a corporate meeting. They then apply what they learned during the residency to their own part of the planning. At the end of the residency each group presents their aspect of the meeting.

Examination

The CMM exam is an open-book and open-notes exam. The exam is composed of essay questions and asks you to apply what you have learned to your own organization/situation. You may either take the exam on the last day, or you can submit it through email to MPI one week after the program. If you take the exam onsite, you need to bring your own laptop computer with CD or floppy disk drive.

Post-residency Business Project

The final aspect of attaining your CMM is completing a business project. The business project is due to MPI six weeks following the residency. The project requires you to take what you learned during the program and produce a strategic business plan. The business plan can be for either a new business venture that you would like to pursue or a restructuring of your current situation. You are given a set of guidelines to follow in developing your business project, and it is anonymously evaluated by two experienced, senior, industry experts to determine your success. You are given detailed information about how to improve the plan. The business projects and the scores are confidential.
